his wife can't stay awake for more than 3 hours. the doctor says that the problem is permanent. after being married for two years and having, theoretically, another 50 to go, he hopes not. these days, he told me, he does the dishes, the laundry, cooks, cleans, and brings home the bacon. she sits in bed. since he told me this in the first minute i got in the car i assume that he picked me up because he needed someone to talk to. since i didn't need to say much i hoped that i had done my part..

draining the future:

while on my 2001 road trip through the united states, the thing that hit me again and again was the fact that history and culture and beauty and tradition werent being swapped for something better. they're just being replaced by disposibility. if you think about this trajectory its a little spooky.
