the multilinguist - st. girons to st guadens.this woman is a french teacher. she was born in algeria. she speaks french, arabic, english, kabul, portguese, spanish, occitaine, and, despite this formidable education, she still likes bruce springsteen (this might be a testimony to The Boss). she told me that she and bruce springsteen share the same birthday. she had big, fat lips and put them to good use when talking. she would make large sounds with the front of her mouth that surprised me. she's a big woman, but the sounds she would make were larger still. this was both beautiful and surprising.
she was reluctant to have her photo taken (i try never to steal these) but i - at least for a few minutes - convinced her that she was a lovely woman and that her face should be seen as such. it took three shots before she relaxed enough to look like herself. this was neither beautiful nor surprising.

during the ride i managed to get her off of the idea of bruce spingsteen and so we talked about arabic a bit. she told me that there is no first-person pronoun (such as "I") in the language. i found this more interesting than "Born In The USA" but maybe my joys are clouded by my politics.
i think i made a mistake here. she asked me to go get a glass of wine with her, but, because the light was starting to fade, i declined. i dont like hitch-hiking in the dark.
