this is peirre froustey. he's a general agent who sells insurance north of biarritz. here he is giving me directions and instructing me to be careful while thumbing. you can tell from the concerned lines of his eyebrows and the restrained index finger. of course he's an insurance agent.

anyway, pierre was a stellar example of how generous strangers can be. the result of the answered prayer of the hitch-hike. first he picked me up off the side of the road. then, rather than simply dropping me off on the side of a different road, we went to the beach and had a beer. i guess he got to work by 10..

he left me there on the beach and i spent the day walking around and staring at the water for the first time in over a year. it was my birthday and i was right where i wanted to be.
