in 2002 and 2003 i interviewed people in paris about their sex lives, hoping to learn what they liked, who they were, and what love meant.

while living in paris, i was in desperate need of headspace. it's a dense city - denser than new york - and the winter removed the sky. so i made it a hobby (or something like that) to scale buildings at dawn, take a 360 degree photo, and climb down. i would post the results to this website and ask people to mail me with a new address. one day someone gave me a rather strange address in the middle of paris. it turned out to be the cathedral of notre dame.

with a great deal of effort and a little bending of the truth i managed to get into a morgue where i could take pictures of people. this is not simple, easy, nor terribly healthy. this project showed me that people really, really, do have auras. like breathing, this is just an artifact of living. if you didn't already know this then either you're not observant of the dead people you've seen, or you've never studied dead people as they (like the living) deserve.

these are photos of the plaques at pere-lachaise, in paris. they are the doorways to little cabins where the ashes of the dead live.

animals are just people that cannot speak; they are people that have less control over symbols. and more fur. and more feet, too. but these are differences of less than a few percentage points, genetically speaking. so roadkill is a symbol of technology, of people, of struggle, and of what it means to find yourself living on a planet in which you no longer have a place.
